    GE’s Distributed Power Supporting Romania’s Largest Municipal Gas Engine District Heating Investment
    Romanian energy services company Bepco srl today showcased four high-efficiency combined heat and power (CHP) plants at the heart of a district heating system in the city of Brasov. The stations are powered by 11 Jenbacher Type 6 gas engines from GE’s Distributed Power business. The project represents Romania’s largest gas engine-based CHP initiative designed to meet a city’s district heating demands.

    New GE Hitachi Technology Makes a Difficult Task Simpler, Faster
    GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, in coordination with Exelon Generation, has unveiled a new, remotely-operated tool that has successfully enabled nuclear technicians to complete tasks at the bottom of nuclear reactors more quickly and safely. This new tool remotely disconnects – uncouples – control rods (one of the pieces of equipment that allows operators to control power production) from their associated blades at the bottom of the reactor during preventative maintenance. Utilizing the battery-powered, wireless device minimizes the amount of radiation that workers are exposed to and allows parallel work activities to take place under the reactor pressure vessel during service outages.

    GE’s Monitoring & Diagnostic Center: Turning Fleet Knowledge into Action Saved $70 Million in 2014
    Every day, at its Monitoring & Diagnostics (M&D) Center, GE collects more than 30,000 operating hours of data from a fleet of more than 1,500 gas turbine and generator assets, supplementing a 40-terabyte database representing more than 100 million fleet operating hours. GE announced today that the data-driven insights drawn from this volume of power generation “big data” have translated to customer savings estimated at $70 million in 2014, up from $53.9 million in 2013.

    Remote Power Plant in Alaska Will Install GE’s Mobile Water Treatment Solution during Planned Outage
    GE today announced it will commission a reverse osmosis mobile water filtration system at the Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) coal-fired power plant in Healy, Alaska. The GE system will provide the plant with clean water during a planned outage to upgrade the plant’s water treatment system and environmental controls and facilitate the start up of Unit 2. The total power output of the facility once Unit 2 is online will be 80 megawatts. The two-unit station is located approximately 300 miles south of the Arctic Circle.

    Today, at the Egypt Economic Development Conference, GE announced signed major contracts with the government of Egypt to deliver 2.683 gigawatts (GW) of electricity, which is equivalent to the energy needed to power more than 2.5 million homes. GE will be supplying a total of 46 turbines: 34 aeroderivative gas turbines and 12 heavy-duty gas turbines, which will start delivering power as soon as May 2015.     GE Brings Solar Power to Nigerian Noodle Company
    GE today announced it will supply Northern Noodles Ltd., a subsidiary of DUFIL and Tolaram Group, with solar technology to reduce emissions at a food manufacturing plant in Kaduna, Nigeria. The 575 kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) plant will be integrated with the company’s existing diesel generators and micro-grid system. Once installed, the hybrid solution is expected to deliver 18 percent reduction in diesel fuel and associated emissions at the site. This contract serves as part of GE’s recently renewed “Company-to-Country” agreement with the Government of Nigeria, as part of a larger GE plan to invest $2 billion in Africa by 2018.

    GE announced that it will supply Lewandpol Company with 27 GE 2.5-103 megawatt (MW) wind turbines for the Galicja Wind Farm in Poland.     The first four highly efficient and flexible GE (NYSE: GE) 7F.05 gas turbines in the field have successfully reached full commercial baseload operation at Saudi Electricity Company’s (SEC) Power Plant (PP) 12 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. By early 2015, all eight units at PP12 will be operating in combined cycle and add nearly 2,000 megawatts, enough power for approximately 2 million homes, to support SEC in meeting its future electricity demands. PP12 is part of Saudi Arabia’s plans to add 33 gigawatts of power generation capacity by 2020.
