Combustion System Tuning

Combustion Dynamics Measurement System

To obtain and sustain an optimum, stable, low-emissions combustion system, some dry low NOx (DLN) combustors must be “tuned” using a data acquisition system known as the Combustion Dynamics Measurement System (CDMS), or “tuning kit.”

The tuning kit collects dynamic pressure data for each combustion chamber on the gas turbine during operation. For DLN 2.0 and later combustion systems, tuning is required during initial unit startup and anytime combustion or hot gas path hardware is changed out. In addition, DLN 1.0 and DLN 2.0 system operators may monitor the combustion system dynamics on their unit regularly as a preventative maintenance measure, and to assure that the combustion system is operating at the optimum level.
