Refurbish Services

Equipment Evaluation

Based on an inspection performed by an experienced engineer, our equipment evaluation service collects information about the physical condition of a unit, its technical design and the applicable GE Technical Information Letters (TILs) and operating and maintenance records.

We offer three levels of inspection and reporting:

  • Level 1 is a review of the unit’s operation and maintenance documents. The report provides general equipment information such as its location, serial numbers, fired hours, type of service, fuel used and a review of the model list, applicable TILs and other relevant documentation.
  • Level 2 includes a visual inspection of the equipment, a review of the operating and maintenance records and an update and review of the model list. Photos and/or videos are taken to assist in the assessment. The resulting report describes the condition of the equipment, lists refurbishment requirements and provides uprate recommendations. Budgetary estimates can also be included, if requested.
  • Level 3 is a major inspection that requires the turbine and generator to be disassembled to determine necessary repairs or component replacements.
Equipment Disassembly

During equipment disassembly, GE mechanical and/or electrical technical advisors supervise a contractor’s disassembly of the power plant equipment, making sure the contractor complies with GE’s recommendations for proper disassembly, including using the proper marking process to minimize costly overruns during re-installation. We document any unusual equipment conditions detected during disassembly.

Equipment Refurbishment and Uprates

We make recommendations for different levels of inspections and uprates, depending on how you plan to use your turbine-generator equipment. Most refurbishment can be performed in the field, although some components such as rotors or bearings may require shipment to a qualified GE service facility. All refurbishment and repairs are done to GE or OEM specifications. We can recommend uprates, and can implement selected options in conjunction with the refurbishment.

Equipment Centerline Installation

Installation of refurbished equipment may require more intense efforts than installation of a new unit. Centerline installation normally includes the following items:

  • Turbine, accessory base, and generator
  • Control cab and generator accessory compartment
  • Inlet and exhaust systems
  • Cooling water module and pumps
  • Fuel filtering and forwarding skids
  • Gas scrubber
  • Carbon dioxide skid
  • Batteries and charger
Project Management

Our project management service includes a project manager who follows the equipment from acquisition through installation and start-up. This professional manages field services, service shop, parts supply and control, modification and uprate (CM&U) requirements and provides timely progress reports.
