Reliable Maintenance Solutions

For years, GE has been supporting and providing services for power, transmission, and distribution systems. We have developed core competencies in the areas of substation design, substation maintenance, and substation components such as RTUs, relays, transformers, and breakers.

GE's substation and electrical network services provide a complete product and system support service. The service includes analysis, management, and a support structure, which can include coverage of transformers, breakers, switchgear, motors, cable, DC battery systems, poles, M&D equipment, RTUs, relays, and communication devices. GE also offers a wide range of service agreements ranging from individual power, transmission, and distribution system services such as consulting Services, training, and maintenance to contractual service agreements (CSAs).

We have designed a complete asset solution cycle to ensure that your needs are met and you are also informed of the possible risks. GE's maintenance services support this by reducing internal costs by having a single vendor interface; optimizing staffing, maintenance and system upkeep spend.

Benefit Scenarios

Let us evaluate, through a few scenarios, how our maintenance service package will serve your purposes.

  • Do you have resource allocation or staffing limit issues? GE can provide the required expertise to help you properly manload and staff maintenance and technical support for cables, transformers, relays, RTUs, and other substation equipment to meet your needs when your budget is constrained
  • Are you being pressured to reduce staff? GE can provide comprehensive packages to optimally train your workforce. We can facilitate the resources to properly troubleshoot and maintain your equipment should a failure or event occurs. We can perform cable testing; transformer maintenance and diagnostics; relay and RTU configuration, troubleshooting, installation and commissioning; and other services to meet your needs under stringent budget condition.
  • Is response time a concern? GE can tailor a response plan for your issues based on your regional location ranging from local support to regional support providing actual response times from 4 hours.
  • Do you have a large influx of commissioning work and not enough personnel? Do you also worry about constant changes in products and systems and the need to retrain personnel? GE provides trained industry experts that can alleviate your workload concerns and allow you to focus your training budget on the things that matter the most.
  • Are you concerned about an ageing fleet or uncertain asset condition? GE's equipment management solution can perform complete condition assessments to ensure proper maintenance, upgrades, and attention to guarantee proper management and maintenance in a cost-effective manner.

Service Programs

Substation and RTU

GE's Substation / RTU management and support service provides six components of support to reduce repair costs, configuration repair and troubleshooting time, return to service time, training budgets and optimize resource usage during normal and peak periods. These services help our customers be proactive in preventing costly forced service outages while optimizing their capital budgeting for repair and replacement programs. Our service is specifically designed to help our customers increase their reliability and improve their profitability. Components to this service methodology are:

  • Condition Assessments
  • System Configuration Management and Upgrade Services
  • Maintenance Plans
  • Spares Management
  • Training
  • Technical Support Service
Transformer Condition Assessment

GE's Transformer Service program is a comprehensive offering specifically designed to help our customers increase their reliability, improve their profitability and reduce their risk through transformer condition assessments. Our expert service team members will meet with the customer to identify and assess their critical needs and develop a solution to meet those needs.

Transformer Monitoring & Assessment

Transformer Monitoring and Condition Assessment Program is a long-term comprehensive offering from GE. This program is specifically designed to use actual transformer condition information to allow customers to make condition based maintenance and repair decisions. Our expert service team members meet with the customer to identify and assess their critical needs and then tailor this program to meet those needs such as to reduce costs.

The program consists of initial monitoring equipment and condition assessment, followed by periodic on-site condition assessments. GE may recommend the use of transformer monitoring equipment to provide continuous on-line monitoring and interactive condition diagnostics with a range of IED's (Intelligent Electronic Devices). GE also uses Transformer Condition Assessments to establish baselines of unit performance and /or capital planning, and to periodically perform off-line electrical testing and maintenance. All these tasks compare data trends against the baseline to verify the current health of the transformer.

Cable Testing

GE's non-destructive diagnostic technology measures the overall health of the cable, locates the existing cable defects, and predicts the future life expectancy of the cable. This helps you to be proactive in preventing costly forced service outages while optimizing their capital budgeting for replacement programs. Our unique Power Cable Diagnostics service is specifically designed to increase reliability, improve profitability, and reduce risks by doing a comprehensive test of power cables. This offering applies to medium and high voltage shielded power cable (5 kV to 500 kV class) with a maximum length of 1.5 to 2 miles. The cables to be tested can be overhead, in cable trays, in duct bank, or buried.
