Coupling Mirror Bore

Coupling Mirror Bore

Leverage Easy Bolt Installation

GE is the only turbine services provider that offers a unique coupling boring process called mirror bore. This patented process effectively takes coupling bolthole boring out of critical path in an outage by allowing the individual coupling halves to be bored separately. When the coupling is later mated together, the boltholes line up exactly allowing easy installation of the coupling bolts. No final honing or other polishing is required as the machine leaves a 63 RMS finish on the whole surface, when complete.

A key benefit of coupling mirror bore is the reduced cost resulting from shorter turbine outages. In addition, the mirror bore process allows complete interchangeability of the rotors so that spares can be quickly and easily changed as needed.

The coupling mirror bore process can be used for the following applications:
  • Bolt hole mirror boring
  • Counter bore machining
  • Oversize hole repair
