In his lead article for this issue, Jay Wileman mentioned “remote monitoring, diagnostics and tuning” as key services in GE Energy’s Asset Optimization portfolio. If you were not sure how you could benefit from the move to remote monitoring, here’s a brief overview to a recently introduced service which is achieving substantial savings for a number of Oil & Gas customers.
GE Energy's GE10 turbines burning natural gas and equipped with a DLN K-One combustion system are capable of operating efficiently at very low NOx levels – as low as 25 ppm. But to maintain this level of performance combustion tuning is required following outages, changes in fuel sources and on a regular basis to compensate for seasonal temperature changes.
Without RDLNT, each tune-up requires a visit from a skilled technical team to carry out the work.
With RDLNT, the job can be done in a matter of hours, rather than days. Downtime and the lost revenue associated with downtime are kept to a minimum. Penalties which might be incurred as a result of an unscheduled outage can be avoided, as well as potential fines caused by excess emissions.

Extra equipment must be installed on each unit (such as Remote Emissions monitoring Systems – REMS, Site connectivity kit, VAMA Card), but it is provided on a lease basis and remains in place for the duration of the contract. With the electronic data acquisition system equipment in place and connected via a T1 service to the GE Energy Remote Tuning Center in Florence, Italy, combustion dynamics and emissions will be monitored, and tune-ups will be carried out on demand – usually within 12 to 24 hours of the request.
- Work is carried out by GE Energy personnel specializing in DLN tune-ups. Quality is assured every time.
- The entire process is smooth and painless – no waiting for tune-up teams, no disruption at the workplace.
- Consistent high-quality service from one of the world's technology leaders.
- Shared technology enables plant personnel to achieve higher levels of performance for combustion efficiency and emissions control.
- Continuous monitoring provides a basis for ongoing optimization of turbine performance.
