CAPE 2005 – African Petroleum Producers gather in Algiers

The second African Petroleum Congress & Exhibition of the African Petroleum Producers Association (APPA) took place this past February in Algiers. Senior officials of twelve African oil and gas producing countries were present, and GE Energy was one of a large number of industry players taking part in the exhibition, conference and many formal and informal meetings that make events of this nature so important to the development of all sectors of the industry.

GE Energy is very familiar with the Algerian oil and gas sector, and has a significant base of installed equipment in the region. Our relationship with Sonatrach, the largest company in Africa, is well-established, making CAPE 2005 a very important event on our calendar. Our exhibition booth attracted considerable attention with displays featuring many of our major achievements in Algeria, with particular emphasis on developing technology in the LNG sector.

“We touched base with many old friends and made important new contacts at this event,” said Carlo Monzini, Algeria Area Manager. “I would say that the most popular subject of enquiry was our current work at Qatargas – the sheer size of the trains we are building at Ras Laffan has captured people’s imagination.” Event organizers reported a sharp increase in attendance over last year, demonstrating rising international interest in the potential of Africa’s oil and gas industry.
