Ladder Bars Plate Straighteners

Ladder Bars plate straighteners are ladder-like modules that are inserted into the gas passages between the ribs of bowed plates. The components install quickly to create a permanent repair that not only removes bowing, but prevents it from recurring. Once installed, Ladder Bars will not slip out of position, and will outlast the collecting plates themselves. Precipitator performance can be restored in a very short outage at a fraction of the cost of plate replacement.

Each module is about 36 in. (91.5 cm) long and has two horizontal spacers, which grasp the plate ribs and push them back into original position. The modules interlock with those above and below, to form a continuous, full-length stiffener system that extends from the top to the bottom of the collecting plate. Hooks at the top of the ladder assembly hold it in position, with no welding, bolting, or riveting required for installation.

A complete straightener system

Other products that improve the effectiveness of the straighteners complement the Ladder Bar system. Beta Bars are adjustable jacks used between the first and last plates and the walls to provide a stable foundation for the Ladder Bars. Side spacers are used at the leading and trailing edges of the plates to hold correct spacing, while custom-sized link bars provide isolation of the plate bundles for unimpeded rapping. Adjustment anchors are used at the bottom side spacers to give precision alignment of the plates. The complete system assures the best alignment and highest power levels possible.

The benefits of alignment

With proper alignment and electrical clearances from the discharge electrodes to the collecting plates, precipitator performance and reliability will be maximized. Straight, aligned plates clean with less rapping energy, and the reduced sparking enhance discharge electrode life. In contrast, bowed plates encourage sparking, are harder to keep clean, contribute to reentrainment of dust, and prevent high power levels. Maintaining precise alignment is critical for performance.
