Transformer Oil Reclamation Plants

Self-contained, Fully Automatic Reclamation Plants

As oil ages in a transformer, it oxidizes and begins to break down, producing aldehydes and peroxides. These bind together and form sludge. Sludge attacks the chemical bonds that hold the cellulose insulation together (measured by polymerization). When the oil's neutralization number is as low as 0.05, the cellulose insulation is already being weakened. Since the cellulose insulation in a transformer can only be replaced with a rewind, it makes sense to remove the oxidation by-products before they can do any damage to the cellulose.

Features & Benefits

GE's oil reclamation plants have column media installed permanently in the plant for 2-3 years. Plants are self contained and fully independent. Oil reclamation (also known as "regeneration") and column media reactivation is fully automatic and simple to operate. When the time is reached for the column media to be changed after 2-3 years, the media is totally free from oil contaminants.

Types of Reclamation Plants Available:
Plant Efficiency

The reclamation plant offers high and consistent efficiency and will ensure complete treatment of transformer oil (whether in a transformer or in a single pass operation on tank to tank) to comply with IEC Publication 296 for new oils or any international specification.

Plant Capacity

Reclamation plants can be supplied with various oil treatment capacities. Capacity is based on initial acidity of 0.2 mg KOH/g of oil. As a general rule, plant capacity is based on the weight of the column media contained in the plant.
