FARADAY iSM&D System

Fully Integrated Equipment Monitoring & Diagnostics

Acquiring data from all substation equipment and providing a wide range of users access to this valuable information heightens the effectiveness of an equipment monitoring and diagnostic program.

Features & Benefits

The FARADAY iSM&D system combines the strengths of a number of GE technologies to form a fully integrated and comprehensive substation monitoring and diagnostic system.

For example, a high rate-of-change gas alarm on a key generation step-up (GSU) transformer can be communicated immediately to the plant and system operators via emails to staff personal digital assistants and dial-up paging. Maintenance staff can view detailed information online using a standard Web browser.

If there is an urgent need to increase loading of a troubled transmission transformer at an inter-tie substation to take advantage of a market opportunity, with the iSM&D system, the system operator can access dynamic loading capability and monitor the condition of the unit continuously.

The FARADAY iSM&D system incorporates the following key components in flexible configurations:

  • FARADAY tMEDIC transformer management units
  • Third-party intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) such as breaker monitors
  • IED and SCADA gateways such as the D20 and D200
  • FARADAY iSM&D user interface and system server
  • LogicLinx® programmable control logic for add local automation and control algorithms
  • Substation LAN/WAN technologies for local and remote network access
  • Interface to existing or new integrated Substation Control System (iSCS)
