MSP-2 Serial Port Server

As Many as Eight Levels of Redundancy

The MSP-2 Ethernet-based serial port server enhances terminal/port server capability by mapping individual serial ports on the MSP-2 server to communication ports in the host computer running the Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0, Microsoft Windows® 95 or Microsoft Windows 98 operating system.

Features & Benefits

Software packages running on the configured host computer can address each MSP-2 port as a distinct communication port. By networking multiple MSP-2 servers, you can expand the number of communication ports on the host computer to 256.

Host computers communicate with the server over a standard Ethernet interface. 10/100Base-T, 10Base-FL and 100Base-FX network connections are available.

Serial communication channels are grouped as two-port modules, where RS232, RS485 and fiber optic modules are available. Plastic optic fiber modules are also available.

The MSP-2 serial port server can be configured to redirect its serial ports simultaneously to as many as eight substation host computers. At run time, any of the configured host computers can control the MSP-2 ports via DDE, allowing you to build eight levels of redundancy at the personal computer level of your substation automation scheme. In the event of hardware or software failure on the active host computer, as many as seven other computers can dynamically control the MSP-2 serial ports.
