Rappers and Vibrators

Electrode Fouling Causes Poor ESP Collecting Efficiency

If the electrodes in your precipitator aren't kept clean, collection efficiency and performance will suffer. Keep yours clean with highly effective, reliable rapping systems from GE.

Our rappers are designed for exceptionally long life, with copper coils wound with Class H magnet wire. Each coil layer is epoxy potted during winding for water and vibration resistance. All mounting flanges are carefully machined to ensure level positioning of the coils and plungers.

The EGR-1 Rapper

Simple, rugged, and reliable, the EGR-1 rapper design has been used for decades, with thousands in daily use all over the world. The copper coil inside the upper cover creates an electromagnetic field which lifts the steel plunger to a selected height. When the current stops, gravity accelerates the plunger downward, striking the rapper shaft to clean away dust deposits. Impact is variable from 0 to 20 foot-lbs of energy to match any cleaning needs.

  • Top cap is removable for quick coil replacements
  • Epoxy encapsulated coil is impervious to water and dust
  • Plungers are available in 8 or 20 lb. (3.63 or 9.07 kg) weights for greater flexibility in intensity Typical plunger usage is 20 lbs. (9.07 kg) for collecting plates, 8 lbs. (3.63 kg) for discharge electrodes (through ceramic shafts - can use 20 lb. with FRP shafts)
  • Coils available in 120 VDC or 240 VDC
  • Machined mounting flanges ease leveling
  • All parts are individually replaceable

The IMPAK® Shaft Mounted Rapper

The IMPAK provides a reliable replacement for worn or weak shaft-mounted rappers. Designed to fit your existing shaft adapter, the IMPAK provides more cleaning power than any similar rapper. The 18 lb. (8.16 kg) plunger is spring assisted for even greater impact force, with the capability to strike four times per second. The coil is immersed in a plasticizing compound that protects it from water, grit, and dirt. The inner spring is a vanadium alloy that can survive millions of cycles.

Components are removable and replaceable, making repairs easy and inexpensive. IMPAK fits a variety of custom mounting bases to match most precipitators.

Pneumatic Vibrator/Rapper

GE's pneumatic vibrator/rapper effectively removes stubborn deposits, even in pulp and paper recovery boiler and cement kiln applications. Powerful enough to remove the toughest deposits, this vibrator uses less air, making it economical to operate. The housing is cast from a special ductile iron that virtually eliminates housing and shaft fatigue.

  • Air-cushioned piston reduces stress to head plate
  • Direct correlation between air pressure and output increases control sensitivity
  • Teflon® coating baked on piston and cylinder for lubrication
  • 3° 30' tapered mount fits most common shafts and adapters
  • One of the most reliable vibrators available
