Evaporative gas conditioning is a process for modifying gas temperature and humidity. In EGC systems, highly atomized water is introduced directly into the gas stream.
EGC systems have proven to be effective in:
- reducing gas volume and temperature
- reducing energy cost
- reducing environmental impact
- reducing emissions by reducing dust resistivity
- reducing emissions by increasing dust size (agglomeration)
- reducing filter bag costs
- increasing plant flexibility
Single fluid systems
In single fluid systems, water is injected at high pressure inside the EGC tower. GE provides high quality lances, nozzles, and controls for single fluid systems. The characteristics and benefits of a single fluid system include:
- hydraulic system
- lower initial cost
- no compressed air required
- adequate turn-down ratio
- lower operational cost
- no "wet bottom" with proper tower height and diameter
Dual fluid systems
In dual fluid systems, the water is atomized with compressed air. Atomization can be accomplished in a tower or in a straight ductwork section. GE provides high quality lances, nozzles, and controls for dual fluid systems.
Some characteristics and benefits of a dual fluid system include:
- Smaller tower required
- No "wet bottom" or walls
- Low operating and maintenance costs
- Long service life
- High efficiency
- Wide turndown ratio
In-Duct Humidification System
In many cases, an EGC System can be installed in a straight section of duct, thereby eliminating the need for a tower.
The result is an effective dual fluid gas conditioning system in a compact space. GE can provide the components necessary to create an effective In-Duct Humidification system.

Gas stream modification by an EGC system can benefit particulate collection downstream of the system.
Advanced electronic control for EGC systems
- Features a unique control algorithm (fuzzy logic) that learns and updates required system parameters to operate at constant outlet temperature even if the inlet temperature changes drastically
- Fast response thermocouples automatically detect process changes and adjust the water and/or air injection for the most efficient operation
- Maintains a "dry bottom" to eliminate plugging of hopper, screw conveyor, and other dust removal equipment
- Maintains constant outlet temperature irrespective of inlet temperature variance for more precise APC and plant operation
- Offers Central Control Room monitoring and alarms
- Optional data feed to a WinDAC® System to archive and track the EGC data. This unique system provides an integrated control of EGC systems and electrostatic precipitators
- Provides remote system diagnostic, monitoring, and control services through a remote interface module in the programmable logic controller (PLC). This saves time and money (travel expenses, outages, etc.)
Additional features for the dual fluid system include:
- Automatically modulates the compressed air supplied to the nozzles to maintain constant droplet size under various water feed conditions (reduces compressed air consumption)
- Utilizes preprogrammed nozzle characteristics to optimize atomization
- In addition to verifying air/water flow rate, it can turn selected lances on/off saving compressed air and water consumption
