Features and BenefitsA typical reactor may be equipped with eight WRNM sensor channels installed in dry tubes. GE's Reuter Stokes WRNM functions as a fission counting device, counting single neutron events from below the source level up to 109 nv, or approximately 10-3 percent of the rated reactor power. As pulse pileups from single neutron counts begin to affect measurement linearity, the signal processing electronics connected to the sensor can be switched to analyze the sensor output using the voltage variance (Campbell) method. This signal analysis technique permits accurate measurement of neutron flux from 108 to 1.5 x 1013 nv, or to approximately 10 percent of the rated reactor power.
