About This FAQ

GateCycle software uses the CrypKey software license as its default licensing mechanism. GateCycle software versions 5.22 and later also support a HardLock key licensing mechanism.

Note: All Hardlock keys come pre-programmed with the license type you requested or purchased, so no registration or transfer of an existing CrypKey software license is required.

To use the HardLock key:

1. Download and install the latest Hardlock drivers for your operating system from the Hardlock Key Drivers Upgrades page.
2. Attach the Hardlock key to the parallel port of the system.
3. Close all programs.
4. Run the GateCycle software License Manager.
5. The License Manager shows the current license source (used currently) and the future license source, which will be used the next time you run the program.
6. Use the Change button to change the future license source to HardLock key and confirm the change when prompted.
7. Restart the GateCycle software for the change to take effect.
8. Make sure you see Hardlock in the current and future license source. This means that the Hardlock license is being used for the current and future operations unless explicitly changed.
9. The HardLock key currently supports Register License, Upgrade License and Terminate License. It does not support transferring licenses. If you can transfer a license, CrypKey is still the license source and you are transferring a CrypKey license.
10. If you need to register or upgrade the HardLock key license, use License Manager.

Is a Hardlock key license ready to use as soon as I attach it to the parallel port and run the GateCycle software?

No. The default license mechanism for GateCycle software is CrypKey. To use a Hardlock key, you must select Hardlock as the license source from the License Manager as described above.

Do I have to register or transfer a license to the Hardlock key before using it for the first time?

No. All Hardlock keys come pre-programmed with the type of license you requested or purchased. It can be used as soon as you get it after switching the license source to Hardlock.

What operations can I perform with the Hardlock key?

You can register, upgrade or terminate the license on your Hardlock key. If you need to extend its duration, you upgrade it just like CrypKey. If the license has expired and you want to re-use the Hardlock key, you must re-register the license by requesting a new Hardlock serial number by giving your Site ID, which you get in the License Manager when you select register or upgrade license.

Can I transfer licenses using the Hardlock key?

No. The license information is built into the Hardlock device. If you need to use it on another machine, you can take the dongle device, attach it to a new machine and start using it without any transfer overhead.
