Creating or Editing a Macro Causes an Access Violation

Symptoms

An "Access Violation" error message is displayed while creating or editing a macro. Users see all or part of the following message:

GateCycle.exe caused an Access Violation 0x0000005 in comctl32.dll

Cause

The custom control module comctl32.dll (versions 4.00.0950, 4.00.095a, 4.00.095b) for the Microsoft Windows 95 operating system does not fully support the features that are required by the GateCycle "Edit Macro" property sheet.

Resolution

Microsoft has released updated versions of comctl32.dll, available by either installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or later Web browser, or by applying the COM32UPD.EXE patch located on the Microsoft FTP site at ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Softlib/MSLFILES/COM32UPD.EXE.
