Smallworld Design Manager™ Software

Fully Integrated, Database-Supported Solution

GE offers solutions for engineering design that help utilities extend or maintain a facility network in the most cost-effective and efficient manner. Smallworld Design Manager software forms the foundation for the GE engineering management solution. A powerful application, Smallworld Design Manager software provides complete process control throughout the planning, design and build phases.

Features & Benefits

The Smallworld Analysis Integration Engine™ application allows electrical and gas utility engineers to model sophisticated networks within the Smallworld environment and provides tools for system planning and operation. It combines the strength of the Smallworld Core Spatial Technology™ application engine with power analysis and optimization products.

Smallworld Design Manager software offers design engineers an integrated management tool for large-scale, complex engineering design jobs. This engineering management application integrates with works management systems to provide process control through the design phase, and make post-design activities simpler and more effective.

Smallworld Design Manager software takes a unique integrated approach to engineering design, leveraging your spatial data in new and powerful ways. Our fully integrated, database-supported solution offers these advantages:

  • Reduces costs in design and build phases by fully integrating the management of design jobs
  • Improves efficiency through better process support
  • Reduces errors by supporting downstream operations with a single data repository
  • Shortens the time required to integrate your newly engineered and energized network
  • Leverages Smallworld technology to provide enterprise-wide access to design information

Smallworld Analysis and Optimization

In the engineering phase of the asset management lifecycle, designers are being challenged to meet increasing demand for new services while reducing design and construction costs and improving reliability of the as-built facilities. As a result, network analysis and optimization tools are critical for utilities to achieve the required least-cost, best engineered design solution. Unfortunately, network analysis tools are generally expensive, complex, standalone applications that are not well integrated into the design environment.

To address this need, GE Energy has developed Smallworld Analysis & Optimization (A&O) 4. With Smallworld A&O 4, state of the art power system analysis algorithms are imbedded as "engines" in Smallworld Core Spatial Technology (CST), providing analysis and optimization tools to any organization managing electric networks in the Smallworld application. Smallworld A&O 4 is particularly well suited to support the plan/design/build phase of the asset management lifecycle, providing users with the benefits of advanced analysis algorithms without having to be experts in the field.

With Smallworld A&O 4, analysis results and optimization recommendations can be seamlessly integrated with the design workflow, providing easy access to designers of any skill level. Sample integrations are available for Smallworld's Design Manager ™ product, providing a completely integrated system for design analysis and optimization. For example, optimization recommendations can automatically update or replace proposed devices in the GIS, allowing analyses to be rerun immediately while ensuring that engineering standards are met. Optimization results can also be integrated with the secondary design approval process so that only designs that meet the optimization criteria will be considered for approval.
