Photogrammetry

Mapping Tools to Engineer Your World

Photogrammetry is the science of making scale-accurate maps from aerial images that are captured using a precision-mapping camera. A wide range of photo- and vector-based products (such as Orthophotographs and Planimetric and Topographic maps) are produced using photogrammetry. There are a variety of uses for photogrammetry. It captures visual reference of the earth's surface, providing a clear image base for design engineering, asset management, planning, and change detection, among others.

Orthophotography is an important product of photogrammetry that is typically used as the base map foundation for GIS. Regardless of the application, the accuracy of the base map dictates the accuracy of the entire system. The accuracy, image clarity and multi-spectral capabilities GE's advanced digital imaging system is broadening the range of applications served by photogrammetry.

Photogrammetry Services

Aerial Imagery

We provide high quality aerial or satellite imagery for mapping, change detection, historical reference, planning, among others. The imagery is available in black and white, color or multi-spectral.

Planimetric and Topographic Mapping

Our photogrammetric services include the production of planimetric and topographic map. These products are vector-based, scale-accurate graphic overlays to the image base that highlight particular features on the ground - such as roadways, driveways, sidewalks, houses, rivers, etc. - and/or the topography of the ground, as identified by contour lines.

Orthophotography

An orthophotograph is an aerial or satellite image which has been processed to correct for distortions due to the movement of the aircraft and variations in the elevation of the terrain. These images are typically used for engineering design, asset management, and as the base map foundation for GIS.

Survey and Inventory

Utilizing the Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, we capture survey data to establish geodetic control networks for our photogrammetric mapping projects. We conduct volume inventories using aerial photos and geodetic control surveys to calculate quantities of bulk materials. We also perform asset inventory surveys, collecting geospatial and other data about specific assets, such as utility poles and meters, park furniture and facilities, water management assets, pipeline features, and more.
