Because industries have different needs and application requirements, we have restructured the organization to focus on each industry's specific needs. To better serve these diverse clients, a vertically-oriented sales, marketing, and operations organization has been put in place. We will expand our core knowledge within each of these markets to provide an understanding of its future direction and specific application requirements. With this knowledge, and the global technology resources of GE, new product and service offerings will be created that impact our clients' success. "For almost 50 years, we've been pioneering leading-edge technologies to help us develop better and faster ways to meet our clients' expectations," said Ron Domsch, General Manager of the geospatial services business. "As this pioneering spirit continues, the restructuring of the organization provides the focus and direction to more fully understand our clients' requirements, thereby allowing us to better serve their present and future needs." The new market/client focus is as follows:
One of the major reasons for the redefinition of our markets is our expanded range of aerial imaging capabilities. GE's advanced Z/I Digital Mapping Camera (DMC®) provides many quality and spectral advantages over traditional film-based aerial photography and even previous digital map imaging technology. Imaging for Environmental AnalysisIn addition to our existing markets, high-resolution, multi-spectral imagery from GE has broad use potential in the Forestry and Environmental fields. Our DMC aerial imaging system can capture panchromatic, natural color (RGB), and color infra-red image data simultaneously. The color infra-red band can show plantlife vitality, heat signatures, and other features. This has obvious value in environmental GIS applications. Combined with ground and airborne GPS data, the clear, multi-spectral imagery can be used to efficiently analyze and catalog environmental assets. Forestry applications include tree species inventory; wind, fire and storm damage assessment; insect and disease mapping; canopy coverage measurements; and access road placement. Wetlands management applications include: water monitoring; vegetation mapping; species inventories; change-over-time monitoring; and mitigation compliance monitoring. Other environmental monitoring applications include: construction, mining, and pollution control. |
