Flame Tracker

Improve Turbine Reliability

GE's Silicon Carbide™ (SiC) flame sensor dramatically improves gas turbine performance while significantly reducing maintenance requirements. The Flame Tracker's high sensitivity to longer UV wavelengths enables it to have a wide dynamic range and fast response time, minimizing false flameouts and improving turbine reliability.

Features & Benefits

Standard on all new GE gas turbines, Flame Tracker replaces the vintage Geiger-Muller tube flame detector systems common in gas turbines manufactured prior to 1998.

Economic benefits of Flame Tracker flame sensor include:

  • Longer life – 50% longer design life
  • Lower replacement cost for sensors
  • Fewer nuisance trips due to more sensitive and quicker response (sees broader spectrum of UV)
  • Easier/faster/safer service due to low voltage system (24Vdc) and quick disconnect

Standard Kits Due to the voltage differences between the Flame Tracker sensor (24vDC) and the GM tube sensor (335vDC), a conversion kit must be installed. Kits are available for all combustion turbines and control systems. A standard kit includes:

  • Flame Tracker flame sensors
  • Quick disconnect cables
  • Cooling coils (where required)
  • Electronic interface module(s)
  • Technical documentation
  • Operation and maintenance manuals

Installation Most customers are able to install the conversion kit using their own plant technicians, however GE Energy does offer installation services if you would prefer.
