Fabrication Capabilities

A World Leader in Composites Manufacturing

GE has a full-service design and manufacturing facility to fabricate ceramic matrix composites (CMCs). Our talented team of engineers can help you modify components to take full advantage of the properties of CMC materials within the constraints of CMC fabrication process capability. Our engineering staff is also trained in tool design using computer-aided design programs, which are used mainly to fabricate preform tooling.

About the Facility

Our 110,000 square foot manufacturing facility contains all of the equipment needed to manufacture CMC components. An expert staff of technicians operates and maintains our preforming, chemical vapor infiltration (CVI), slurry-casting and melt infiltration (MI) processes. With a high-volume capacity CVI furnace facility, we can fabricate a large variety of components.

Machine Shop

Our fully capable CMC machine shop is staffed by machinists who are experienced with the special needs and requirements of machining ceramic components. In-house capabilities include lathes, grinders, milling machines, a CNC cylindrical grinder, automatic surface grinders and CNC vertical machining centers equipped with high-speed spindles and custom diamond-coated tooling.

Testing & Inspection Capabilities

We have a full range of test equipment for room- and elevated-temperature mechanical characterization in both air and inert environments.

Other capabilities include:

  • Infrared NDE
  • A full range of microscopy services, including SEM/EDS analysis
  • Dimensional inspection using the latest CMM technology
  • Other materials characterization techniques including oxygen/nitrogen content analysis and TGA/DTA

In addition to being ISO 9001 and AS9100 certified, we employ Six Sigma rigor to develop robust processes and ensure quality products. We also leverage expertise and capabilities from the GE Global Research Center and United States government research centers and laboratories.
