Capacitors

Capacitors from GE

For a century, utilities have relied on GE to deliver electrical products and services to meet their quality, durability and performance needs. Today, our grid and asset management suite, advanced distribution infrastructure solution and substation management tools enable utilities to deliver superior customer care, system reliability, and operating efficiency. Our capacitor product line is an integral part of our portfolio. GE provides power capacitors that meet ANSI® / IEEE® and IEC® standards. Our low voltage capacitors are UL Listed. Ratings range from 1 kvar to 500 MVAR, from 240 volts to 500 KV.

Our products can address the following conditions
  • Voltage Stability/Voltage Collapse
  • Uncontrolled rapid decline in system voltage
  • Steady State Voltage Regulation Wind farms, radial lines, etc.
  • Import/Transfer Capability Restrictions
  • Mitigate voltage flicker/power quality/Wind farms, industrial facilities
  • Need for power factor correction for voltage or VAR support
  • Increase system capacity
  • Reduce losses or reduce utility bill
Example Customers include:
  • Utilities and Industrials that have a high cost of downtime caused by momentary voltage dips.
  • Utilities that are in need of continuous VARs.
  • Industrials that have a low power factor or are paying a power factor penalty.

GE's Capacitor Product Families

High Voltage Capacitor Units

Designed to meet IEC 871, IEEE 18 and CSA Ratings, capacitor units for power factor correction applications have been made to meet your diverse needs for increased durability and tolerance of harmonics and transients. They have ratings of 25 to 1,000 kVAR and 2.4 kV to 25 kV.

Substation Stack Rack & Pole Top Equipment

Stack Rack equipment is installed in welded aluminum racks and are shipped ready for field installation with base and inter-rack insulators, substructure, interconnecting bus wire and other accessories for a three-phase equipment. Pole Top Equipment is pre-wired, factory assembled, and shipped ready for pole installation with single-phase units.

Low Voltage Power Factor Correction

GE Low Voltage Capacitors include GEMATIC™ Quick Response Fast Switching PFC, Fixed Motor and Pump PFC, GEM® Fixed PFC, GEMTRAP® Fixed PFC with Harmonic Filter, Matrix™ Harmonic Filter, and Switched Power Factor Correction.

Metal Enclosed & Harmonic Filters

These power factor correction products are metal enclosed for indoor and outdoor installations. These banks can be located on a distribution feeder as a small padmount or at the workstation site. Metal Enclosed Harmonic Filter Banks should be considered when power factor correction is desired in a harmonic environment.

Induction Heating and Melting

GE supplies air and water-cooled capacitors to the Induction, Heating and Melting Industry. We offer an extensive range of capacitor ratings up to 4000 Volts and up to 50 kHz.

DC and Pulse

Applications of these capacitors include Energy Storage, DC Filter, Pulse and other custom designs.

Electronic

Capacitors designed as snubber and commutation capacitors for high-current power electronic applications such as high frequency, high power inverters. The all-film, low loss, dielectric design is especially suited for these applications.

Line Reactors

Reactors help to protect motors from the high peak voltages and fast rise times which can be experiences in IGBT inverter applications when the distance between the inverter and motor is long.

D-VAR™

D-VAR, or Dynamic VAR system, is a powerful, cost-effective solution that dynamically regulates voltage levels on power transmission grids and industrial operations. Distributed D-VAR systems improve system reliability and expand transmission capability at low cost. Reactive power is inserted at strategic points to protect against voltage instabilities and low voltage conditions. D-VAR systems allow utilities to maximize load serving ability and transfer capacity.

Arresters

Arresters provide excellent protective characteristics as well as temporary over voltage capability. The GE Arrester product is based on the field-proven metal oxide disks known for maintaining stable characteristics.
