How to Configure Your Browser

The current recommended browser for use with GE's Customer Collaboration is Microsoft® Internet Explorer version 6.0 with service pack 1. It is extremely important to configure your browser to ensure ProjectNet works properly on your system. The following steps assume that you are using Internet Explorer 6.0 on Microsoft Windows® 95, 98, NT® or 2000.

  1. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
    Result: The Internet Options dialog box opens.
  2. In the Internet Options dialog box, click Delete Files.
    Result: The Delete Files dialog box opens.


  3. In the Delete Files dialog box, check Delete all offline content.

  4. Click OK.
    Result: The Delete Files dialog box closes, the Internet Options dialog box opens, and your temporary Internet files are deleted. This process may take several minutes to complete.


  5. In the Internet Options dialog box, click Settings.
    Result: The Settings dialog box opens.
  6. In the Settings dialog box, select Every visit to the page.
  7. Make sure the Amount of disk space to use is 99 megabytes or less.
  8. Click OK.
    Result: The Settings dialog box closes, the Internet Options dialog box opens, and your settings are saved.


  9. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Security tab.
  10. In the Select a web content zone area, click Internet.
  11. Complete one of the following steps:
    • If the security level is set to Medium, go on to the next step.
    • If the security level is set to anything other than Medium, complete the following steps:
      • Click Custom Level.
        Result: The Security Settings dialog box opens.
      • From the Security Settings dialog box, select Medium from the Reset to picklist.
      • Click Reset.
        Result: You are asked to confirm that you want to reset the security settings for the Internet zone.
      • Click Yes.
        Result: The security settings are set to medium.
      • Click OK.
        Result: The Security Settings dialog box closes, and the Internet Options dialog box opens.


  12. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
  13. Locate the HTTP 1.1 settings section.
  14. Complete one of the following two steps:
    • If you use a proxy server, clear the Use HTTP 1.1 checkbox, and check the Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections checkbox.
    • If you do not use a proxy server, check the Use HTTP 1.1 checkbox, and clear the Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections checkbox.
      Note: If you do not know whether you use a proxy server, please contact your system administrator.
  15. Locate the Microsoft VM or Java VM section.
  16. Confirm that the Java console enabled, Java logging enabled, and JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled checkboxes are checked.
    Note: If you check the Java console enabled or JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled checkboxes, you must restart your Internet Explorer for these settings to take effect.


  17. Locate the Security section.
  18. Complete the following steps:
    • Clear the Do not save encrypted pages to disk checkbox.
    • Clear the Use PCT 1.0 checkbox.
    • Check the Use SSL 2.0 checkbox.
    • Check the Use SSL 3.0 checkbox.
    • Clear the Use TLS 1.0 checkbox.

Your browser is now optimally configured to use GE Customer Collaboration.
