Located about 10 kilometers off the coast of Arklow, Ireland, the 25 MW Arklow Bank Offshore Wind Park is the world’s first commercial application of offshore wind turbines over three megawatts in size, and Ireland’s first offshore wind facility. Comprising seven GE 3.6-megawatt (MW) wind turbines, construction activities began during late-summer 2003, and commissioning is now complete. The project is being constructed and will be owned and operated by GE Energy as a demonstration platform for its 3.6 MW technology. The project was co-developed by GE Energy and Airtricity, Ireland’s largest renewable energy company.
