Plant Services
Plant Maintenance
The Global Plant Maintenance division offers maintenance service contracts that offer guarantees to meet diverse business needs. In the oil and gas and power generation industries, more than 1,200 GE and non-GE units are covered by contractual service agreements. About 10 percent of the agreements cover entire process units, consisting of rotating equipment, static equipment and auxiliary systems. Each contract has its own project manager to provide headquarters support for technical assistance, emergency requests, reporting and parts warehousing. With RAM engineering support, maintenance equipment plans are tailored based on the machinery's criticality and operation conditions.
Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) Engineering
The reliability, availability and performance of equipment that drives industrial production processes has a financial value that can be quantified in terms of revenues and savings. Understanding this value is critical to support operation and maintenance decision-making. GE RAM engineering enhances product effectiveness and supports customer operations by monitoring reliability and performance, and it optimizes usage by maintenance rationalization and product improvement.
The key activities of RAM engineering include:
- Improving overall plant reliability and availability by selecting the optimal equipment configuration and maintenance on the basis of specific operating conditions
- Improving equipment efficiency through optimization and maintenance rationalization
- Providing feedback to the engineering department for product improvement processes
- Monitoring the condition and performance of equipment to evaluate actual operating conditions and proactively identify incipient anomalies
- Evaluating and improving plant safety and environmental impact
Assisted by sophisticated computer programs, our RAM engineers gather critical data and provide specific information to guide decisions that optimize the value of your machinery:
- Field data analysis
- Critical components analysis
- Early detection, notification and support for resolution of anomalies
- Periodic reports on machine condition and maintenance recommendations
- Identification of components responsible for performance loss
- Maintenance plan analysis
Remote monitoring and diagnostics (RM&D) provides information to enable decisions for optimizing the value of machinery assets. The RM&D Center in Florence, Italy continuously collects data from operating machines for analysis by GE experts. The RM&D system allows our engineers to track the condition of the machinery and forecast maintenance requirements on a schedule consistent with operating requirements and business needs. The system also facilitates recommendations for optimization of machine availability and efficiency, and helps detect problems in an incipient stage.
Product safety activities include:
- Implementing a safety issue resolution process that determines the risk level and resolution plan when an incident occurs and records the events
- Implementing design for product safety, a tollgate process that takes safety and environmental issues into account from product option identification through design and post shipment
- Implementing a system safety review process that defines potential accident scenarios and hazards and the associated risk-mitigation measures
