Industry-leading approach to EHS
Performing work safely and in an environmentally sound manner
At GE, environmental health and safety (EHS) is a responsibility we take very seriously. It’s a commitment we make to all our employees, customers and all other stakeholders – because it helps save businesses and lives.
By upholding the industry’s highest standards, GE meets or exceeds all client and regulatory requirements. We continually improve our processes with a system of clear objectives and monitoring practices. We review past performance
and regularly incorporate best practices from affiliated companies and external sources, including clients and non-government organisations (NGOs).
No matter where or what the project, safety comes first.
Third-party certifications

Minimizing risk? Check.
There are safety checks on every project. ISO 9001 and 14001 certification ensures consistency and rigour in all aspects of our work. Our EHS team takes an active role from initial proposal to in-field activity. Each project begins with risk identification moving through to detailed mitigation plans and in-field controls that continually re-assess hazards and take appropriate measures where needed. Fully documenting and reviewing activities helps to avoid hazards on current projects and improves avoidance in the future.
Leading the industry in EHS training
A comprehensive training program raises the skills and competencies of all personnel involved. Our commitment to EHS is demonstrated by an average of 16,274 EHS training units completed annually – more than 17 units per employee. Every GE PII Pipeline Solutions business employee has at least a basic, comprehensive EHS awareness course. On-site personnel and Project Managers have detailed and documented EHS training plans including regular refresher courses. Our Project Managers are formally certified, making them EHS specialists for effective hazard identification, risk assessment, mitigation and management.
Health and safety initiatives
Significant EHS improvements are made annually to ensure all reasonable steps are taken to avoid injury and illness, including:

Enhanced environmental performance
Our philosophy on maximizing pipeline utilization includes preventing pollution – and this is best accomplished through early defect identification and appropriate remediation.
We have ensured that all our operations comply with legislative requirements and minimize environmental impact by implementing an Environmental Management System (EMS) certified to ISO 14001. This system’s annual performance highlights include:
- 10% reduction in hazardous waste disposal
- 5% reduction in energy usage
