ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES & SERVICES APRIL 2006

Advanced technology in the spotlight

This year’s Annual Meeting was another great forum to showcase some of GE’s latest advanced technologies, as well as to bring together industry leaders for discussions on recent developments and challenges in this ever-changing market.

Technology workshops provided attendees with in-depth information on electric machine technologies for oil and gas applications, compressor design and validation, the latest developments in aeroderivative technology, service technologies to extend asset life and improve performance, unpiggable pipeline inspection technologies and asset data integration.

Tours of GE’s Florence and Massa plants provided insight on GE’s lean manufacturing processes and Six Sigma total quality methodology, as well as the introduction of the world’s largest LNG supertrain – using a GE MS9001 gas turbine driver with a 45-MW electric-motor helper and the associated test program. The Florence plant builds and tests gas and steam turbines, and centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, and is the largest and most advanced of GE Oil & Gas’ manufacturing centers. The Massa plant packages turbo compressor units and has extensive capabilities for conducting full load string tests on large units.

Speakers at the event were senior executives from some of the world’s leading oil and gas companies including ExxonMobil, Gazprom, Shell Canada, Gasco, Union Fenosa Gas, RasGas and ENI. A number of GE executives also made presentations including Dave Calhoun, vice chairman of GE Infrastructure; Claudi Santiago, president of GE’s Oil & Gas business; Mark Little, director of GE Global Research; and Lorraine Bolsinger, vice president of GE ecomagination.
