Modernizing gas compression trains in aging facilities

Significant increases in natural gas demand from net-importers (Europe, North America and Japan) are creating a clear need for upgrading the gas transportation infrastructure in net-export countries. In addition to rehabilitating pipelines for safety and efficiency, there is quite often an opportunity to increase their flow. This leads to an important and growing need for modernization at many gas compression stations. Revamping can be a more effective and economical way to achieve higher production objectives than building new gas compression lines.

The following case study illustrates common elements of many compression train revamping projects. It also shows the importance of expertly managing complex, interrelated and often simultaneous work on multiple machines.

GE’s capabilities in this area are second to none. We build a broad range of reliable equipment and perform all types of maintenance and upgrades on our own units as well as those from other vendors and manufacturers. We also have the proven management and permitting experience to support your revamping project through the various levels of governmental authorization and relationships with external companies – your suppliers, partners and customers alike.
