| HOUSTON, TEXAS - June 6, 2008 :- GE Oil & Gas' PII Pipeline Solutions is introducing more flexible service offerings to help pipeline operators better evaluate potential third-party mechanical damage (dents), the single-most significant integrity threat to both liquid and gas networks globally. With operators struggling to evaluate the large population of dents in their networks, GE is offering innovating integrity engineering solutions to more accurately measure the severity and potential threat of dents reported by in-line inspection runs. Illustrating the potential problem operators are facing, over an 18-month period, GE's inspection tools detected more than 66,000 dents within 57,200 miles of pipeline - an average of 1.2 dents per mile. To help operators overcome this integrity management challenge, GE is upgrading its global fleet of internal pipeline deformation inspection tools and combining them with advanced integrity engineering solutions to provide more detailed dent-surface-contour and strain information. "GE is dedicated to helping operators enhance the long-term integrity of their networks by providing them with the most accurate information available so that they can invest their time and money remediating dents that pose a real threat to a pipeline's future integrity, and not on dents that require no further action," said John Bucci, General Manager for PII Pipeline Solutions, GE Oil & Gas. Unveiling its new global fleet of internal pipeline deformation inspection tools, GE Oil & Gas' PII Pipeline Solutions is introducing its new CalScan™ product line-CalScan-EP (Enhanced Performance), and CalScan-XR (High Resolution) -to help operators more reliably and safely map and monitor the condition of high-pressure pipelines. CalScan-EP replaces GE's previous geometry vehicle, CaliPPer, offering enhanced operating performance, deformation assessment and mapping capabilities without increasing the tool's overall length, thus allowing the device to be combined with GE's MagneScan™ metal-loss inspection tools to perform up to three surveys in a single run. CalScan-EP, the new multi-channel caliper tool fleet, will be used primarily for line proving, detecting and sizing geometry defects, and assessing dents and mechanical damage when it is combined with a magnetic flux leakage (MFL) tool. The new tool design also has increased the vessel pressure capability so it can accommodate pipelines with a pressure range up to 120-bar (1740-psi). New electronics for better reliability with mapping capability in a single recorder, and improved odometer wheels also have been added. In addition to the improved EP model, by using a brand new inspection module, CalScan-XR combines all the performance improvements from CalScan-EP with a new sensing arrangement, allowing higher-resolution deformation detection, sizing and profiling. "The new CalScan-XR, in combination with our Integrity Engineering products, , will allow significantly improved analysis of dents and other deformation defects and their effect on the safe operation of our customer valuable assets," said Mauricio Palomino, PII Pipeline Solutions' product manager for geometry & mapping. CalScan-XR completed a series of tests at PII Pipeline Solution's test loop in Stutensee, Germany and will be available by Fall 2008. To assure higher safety standards are being met, CalScan-EP and CalScan-XR have received ATEX certification, an important industry certification required for products operating in potentially explosive environments. The new CalScan was developed by PII Pipeline Solutions' global engineering design teams based in Cramlington, UK, and Calgary, Alberta as well as application engineering teams in Houston and Cramlington with the support of field operations teams around the world.
