| ATLANTA, GA. - April 16, 2008 : – Prolec GE, a joint venture between GE Energy and Xignux, a leading electrical transformer supplier to the utility industry, has announced a $50 million project that will expand its manufacturing capabilities in Monterrey, Mexico. The expansion is focused on two of Prolec GE's product lines including power and commercial transformers, making it one of only a few North American manufacturers of the power transformer line. The expansion of Prolec GE's manufacturing capabilities is focused on addressing the needs of utilities, EPC firms, developers and independent power producers. The technology is based on proven technical knowledge and experience from both GE and Prolec. Prolec GE has more than 30 years of building commercial and large power transformers under international standards focused on ANSI, CSA, NMX and IEC requirements. The expansion will enable Prolec GE's power transformer line to include transformers up to 1,000 MVA with voltages up to 550 kV, which is in response to the worldwide infrastructure capacity expansions, and in support of the growth of the electrical industry. The commercial transformer line is expected to increase its current production volume over 30 percent to support the growing demand of the wind generation segment. "Prolec GE's expanded manufacturing capabilities will allow for faster delivery and better service for the area," said Bob Gilligan, general manager of GE Energy's transmission and distribution business. "The expansion will help meet the market demand and address the needs of electric utilities as they build or upgrade transmission lines, and cleaner energy projects, such as wind , will benefit from the added capacity." Shipments from the capacity additions are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2008 for commercial transformers and the second half of 2009 for power transformers.
