| ATLANTA, GEORGIA - February 16, 2007 : – GE Energy will supply 300 of its 1.5-megawatt wind turbines to Noble Environmental Power for 2007 and 2008 projects that will increase New York State's wind power capacity by 450 megawatts. Based in Essex, Conn., Noble Environmental Power is a leader in the wind industry and has projects under active development in New York and Michigan. The company will use the new GE turbines for the second phases of the Bliss Windpark, located in Wyoming County in western New York; and the Clinton Windpark, located in Clinton County in northern New York. Plans call for selling all of the power from the wind projects to the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) for dispatch through the state electricity grid. The projects will create about 800 local construction jobs and more than 40 permanent operation and maintenance jobs. The new projects will significantly increase New York's total wind capacity. As of Dec. 31, 2006, the state's installed wind energy capacity stood at 370 megawatts, according to the American Wind Energy Association. "New York State has been very aggressive in striving toward energy independence," said Victor Abate, vice president-renewables for GE Energy. "The state has set a goal to produce 25 percent of its energy from renewable sources, including wind, by the year 2013. More than 60 counties, towns and villages in New York have adopted renewable energy goals." A 2004 study commissioned by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and NYISO and prepared by GE's Energy Consulting group concluded that about 3,300 megawatts of new wind power capacity could be safely added to the state's electricity transmission grid. However, that would require the state to adopt new technical requirements affecting how the wind power is moved onto the grid. To address such grid integration issues, earlier this year GE introduced WindRIDE-THRU™, which allows wind turbines to remain in operation rather than trip off-line during a 100 percent voltage drop; and WindFREE™ Reactive Power, which delivers controlled reactive power even in zero wind conditions. The WindRIDE-THRU feature is now available in two standard GE packages: Low Voltage Ride-Thru and Zero Voltage Ride-Thru. GE also recently announced that it has surpassed 5,000 installations for its 1.5-megawatt wind turbine, one of the most widely used machines in the global wind power industry. "This technology has been proven in nearly every wind regime, terrain or climate worldwide," said Abate. GE Energy's wind turbine technology is a key element of ecomagination, a corporate-wide commitment to develop and market technologies that will help customers address pressing environmental challenges. Noble Environmental Power was founded in 2004 by veterans of the independent power industry, and is majority-owned by J.P. Morgan partners. The company expects to be the largest wind producer in New York State by the end of 2007.
