GE Energy Supplies Equipment for Two New Louisiana Generating Stations

HOUSTON, TEXAS, February 23, 2005: -- GE Energy's aeroderivative division has been awarded a contract with TIC (The Industrial Company) of Steamboat Springs, Colo. for Lafayette Utilities System (Lafayette, La.) to provide four LM6000PC SPRINT™ aeroderivative gas turbines for two new generating stations. The TIC built power generation facilities will be designed by PB Power (New York, N.Y.).

The new T.J. Labbé Electric Generating Station and Hargis-Hébert Electric Generating Station will each be based on two natural gas-fired LM6000-PC SPRINT units. The nominal rating of each facility will be 100 megawatts.

The equipment will be used for intermediate-duty, simple-cycle electric power generation for Lafayette Utilities System's load management. The Hargis-Hébert facility will also have synchronous condensing capability for the supply of reactive power to support area transmission.

The new generating stations enable Lafayette Utilities System to avoid running less economical, older generating units at summer peak times, when transmission in Southwest Louisiana is constrained. They also enable Lafayette to have emergency black-start generating capabilities in the event of tropical storms or hurricane-related outages.

"We are pleased to work with Lafayette to create these two new generating stations," said Rick Stewart, president, GE Energy's aeroderivative division. "Having this generating capability will allow Lafayette Utilities System to control its own destiny in bringing economical and reliable electric power supply to its growing community."

The T.J. Labbé plant is scheduled to begin commercial operation in June 2005 and the Hargis-Hébert is scheduled to start up in May 2006. The LM6000 aeroderivative gas turbines will be packaged at GE Energy's Jacintoport Manufacturing Facility, located in Houston, Texas.

GE Energy's aeroderivative division is a leading supplier of aeroderivative gas turbines for industrial and marine applications and is also the world's largest and most experienced aeroderivative gas turbine service provider.
