GE Energy Supplies Distributed Control System to Power Plant in Northern Spain

ORLANDO, FLORIDA (November 30, 2004) — GE Energy has shipped a distributed control system (DCS) for the Amorebieta combined-cycle power plant near Bilbao, in the Basque Autonomous Region of Spain. The announcement was made today at Power-Gen International 2004 in Orlando, Fla.

Under the terms of a contract awarded in 2003, GE Energy's integrated solution delivers the Mark VI-based DCS with precision diagnostics, flexible redundancy and online repair. GE Energy is also supplying an engineered equipment package comprised of two 9FA gas turbine generators, one steam turbine and two heat recovery steam generators, with the accompanying turbine control systems.

The Mark VI-based DCS utilizes GE Energy's comprehensive software application, Toolbox™, enabling operators to configure and program multiple software functions from one station. The enhanced speed and flexibility of the Mark VI delivers protection and monitoring in a single control system, with improved availability and reduced maintenance, spare parts and training costs.

"The Amorebieta project continues to show GE Energy's commitment to DCS solutions," said Ricardo Artigas, president of energy services for GE Energy. "We have long been known as the best in class turbine controls provider and we are excited to extend this superior technology to plant controls in the power generation segment."

Located in an industrial park in Amorebieta, Bizkaia, Spain, the power plant was developed by Bizkaia Energia S.L, a wholly owned subsidiary of ESB International Ltd. (ESBI) of Dublin, Ireland. ESBI is an operation and maintenance provider as well as an independent project developer for power generation and transmission. The power plant is scheduled to enter into commercial operation in the fall of 2005.

GE Energy's global controls services group provides custom-designed solutions for turbine, generator, and compressor controls, as well as plant-wide systems. Optimizing performance for turbines from a variety of equipment manufacturers, GE's solutions are focused on enhancing our customers operating revenue and providing tangible bottom-line benefits.
