GE Energy Supplies LM6000-PC Sprint® Aeroderivative Gas Turbines to Plant in Greece

ORLANDO, FLORIDA (November 30, 2004) — GE Energy signed a contract with HERON S.A., a subsidiary of TERNA S.A., to supply three LM6000-PC Sprint® aeroderivative gas turbine units to the Heron-Thermoelectric power plant in Thebes, Greece.

GE Energy's LM6000-PC Sprint® units will operate in open-cycle mode. The total production of the Heron-Thermoelectric power plant at full load, under ISO conditions, will be 145 megawatts. The units will operate in peak shaving mode during the summer and it is likely that the units will operate in the winter as well for grid stabilization.

TERNA's contract with the Hellenic Transmission Operator is for three years, based on a capacity certificate agreement. After the three-year period, the plant will be a full-merchant plant.

"HERON will benefit from GE Energy's proven technology and technical support," said Rick Stewart, president of GE Energy's aeroderivative business. "The LM6000PC Sprint units will help HERON improve efficiency and lower operating costs."

Natural gas is the primary fuel, with liquid fuel as a backup. Up until March 2004, the plant site was still farmland. The plant began commercial operation in July 2004. Plant procurement, basic and detailed design, construction, erection and commissioning were completed in less than five months.

In conjunction with this order, GE Energy's rental business will supply five TM2500 mobile gas turbine generators to TERNA. A trailer-mounted version of GE's well-proven LM2500 aeroderivative gas turbine, the TM2500 is a portable power plant that was introduced by GE Energy's rental business in 1999. It can be easily transported by ship, rail or truck and can be quickly reassembled on site.

Since 1972, TERNA has undertaken the study, design and construction of a wide range of public and private projects that have involved large budgets, complex technical works and/or advanced know-how, such as office building complexes, resorts, hospitals, hydroelectric stations, wind power farms, dams, road networks, ports, railway projects, industrial installations, etc. Through the successful planning and realization of these projects, TERNA has consolidated its position as one of the leading Greek construction companies.

GE Energy's aeroderivative division is a leading supplier of aeroderivative gas turbines for industrial and marine applications and is also the world's largest and most experienced aeroderivative gas turbine service provider. It provides power-generating equipment to utilities, industries and marine fleets throughout the world. In addition, the company provides comprehensive maintenance coverage and is dedicated to helping its customers improve their operations through reduced plant downtime, improved efficiency, and enhanced power or production output.
