GE's Frame 9FA Technology Selected for Power Plant Expansion in Egypt ORLANDO, FLORIDA (November 30, 2004) — Two GE Frame 9FA gas turbines will be used for the expansion of the Cairo North Power Station in Egypt, GE Energy announced today at Power-Gen International 2004. The project will mark the first installation of GE's advanced technology (FA) gas turbines in Egypt. GE and its consortium partner, Techint CimiMontubi (TCM) of Milan, Italy received an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the project from the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (Ministry of Electricity and Energy) through its affiliate company, Cairo Electricity Production Company. The Cairo North Power Station is owned and operated by Cairo Electricity Production Company. The Frame 9FA gas turbines are each ISO-rated at 256 megawatts. The steam turbine, heat recovery steam generator and civil works contracts will be awarded separately, and the total output of the Cairo North expansion (Cairo North II) will be 764 megawatts in combined-cycle, base load operation. Natural gas will be the primary fuel, with light distillate as the back-up fuel. In addition to the gas turbines, GE and TCM will supply two generators rated at 360 MVA, controls, engineering services, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls balance of plant, steel structures, construction, technical services, spare parts, training, commissioning and start-up. The Frame 9FA gas turbines will be manufactured at GE's Greenville, S.C. gas turbine plant, while the generator will be built in Schenectady, N.Y. and the control system in Salem, Va. The equipment will be shipped in January of 2005, with commercial operation expected by February of 2006. The GE Frame 9FA gas turbine is a member of GE's family of F technology machines, which has compiled more than 11 million hours of commercial operation in power plants worldwide.
