GE Energy to Provide Aeroderivative Gas Turbine to Power Plant in Turkey ORLANDO, FLORIDA (November 30, 2004) — GE Energy was awarded a contract by IZTEK ELEKTRIK ÜRETIMI A.S. to provide an LM6000-PC SPRINT® aeroderivative gas turbine generator set for the IZTEK Izmit power plant located in Izmit, Kocaeli, Turkey. The announcement was made today at Power-Gen International 2004 in Orlando, Fla. The aeroderivative gas turbine generator set is rated at close to 50MW and is configured for natural gas operation with water injection for reduced NOx levels. Under the scope of the contract, GE Energy will deliver the equipment to the site complete with mechanical and electrical installation. The IZTEK Izmit combined-cycle power plant currently consists of one Siemens (former ABB) GT10 gas turbine generator set, one GE LM2500+ gas turbine generator set and one steam turbine generator set, for a total output of 61 megawatts at site conditions. The equipment will be used in cogeneration when steam is required. The three gas turbines each have independent heat recovery steam generators that will feed steam into common steam headers, which will then feed it into a steam turbine. The energy produced from the Izmit power plant is being sold primarily to local industry with the excess going to an IZTEK sister company active in wholesale trading of electricity. The LM6000-PC SPRINT is scheduled to begin commercial operation in April 2005. Iztek is part of the KOC Group, which is one of the biggest holding companies in Turkey. Currently, it has a total output of 61 megawatts at site conditions, and around 26 megawatts electricity and 35 tons/h steam supply to its direct customers. With the addition of the new LM6000-PC Sprint, the plant will be more efficient and able to supply uninterruptible electricity and steam to its direct clients. This will also increase its presence in the Turkey electricity industry. GE Energy's aeroderivative division is a leading supplier of aeroderivative gas turbines for industrial and marine applications and is also the world's largest and most experienced aeroderivative gas turbine service provider. It provides power-generating equipment to utilities, industries and marine fleets throughout the world.
