GE Doosan Supplying Six Steam Turbines for Coal-Fired Plants in Korea ATLANTA, GA. (October 19, 2004) GE Energy has arranged with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., Ltd. of Changwon, Korea, to supply six steam turbine-generators for the expansions of coal-fired power plants in Korea. When completed, the projects will add more than 3,000 megawatts of new capacity to the Korean power grid. The new units, which are GE model G12 machines, are being jointly designed and manufactured by GE and Doosan, under a long-term agreement between the two companies. GE will handle most of the design work in its facilities in Schenectady, New York and will provide installation, technical assistance and training services, while Doosan will perform most of the manufacturing and will also provide site installation services. The new steam turbines will be highly efficient, ultra-supercritical fossil units, with a nominal output of 520-550 megawatts. The generators are water-cooled machines. GE and Doosan have supplied nearly all of the supercritical steam turbine-generators larger than 500 megawatts that are currently installed in Korea. GE's portion of the equipment will be manufactured in its facilities in Bangor, Maine, with the Doosan portion manufactured in Changwon, Korea. The equipment will be shipped over the next two to three years, with commercial start-ups ranging from late 2005 to mid-2008.
