GE Energy to Provide LM2500+ Gas Turbine to Ames, Iowa

ATLANTA, GA (August 24, 2004) — GE Energy was awarded a $9.4 million contract by the City of Ames, Iowa to provide an LM2500+ aeroderivative gas turbine.

The LM2500+ gas turbine generator will have dual fuel capability with a water injection system to reduce the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. The gas turbine will be installed at the Dayton Avenue site, within the City of Ames.

Rated at 29.2 megawatts, the unit will operate in simple-cycle operation. Although the LM2500+ is capable of burning either natural gas or fuel oil, fuel oil will serve as the primary fuel since natural gas is not currently available at the site. The City of Ames will decide whether or not to extend a natural gas pipeline to the site.

The LM2500+ will be manufactured at the GE Energy facility in Houston, Texas, and will be delivered by December 1, 2004. The unit is scheduled to begin commercial operation in June 2005.

The City of Ames currently operates a coal-fired plant that includes two GE steam turbines with a total capacity of approximately 100 megawatts. The City of Ames selected Sega Inc. of Stilwell, Kan. as their engineer on the project. Sega has provided engineering services to the Power Industry for over 30 years.

GE Energy will transport the turbine and provide technical services during the installation and start-up periods.

The LM2500+ is the most powerful gas turbine in GE Energy's LM2500/2500+ product family and is based on the industry-leading LM2500 design. The LM2500+ was designed to achieve reliability levels equal and/or higher to the precedent-setting reliability of the LM2500.
