GE Upgrades Control Systems for Indiana Power Station New Software Centralizes LM6000 Turbine Control HOUSTON, TEXAS (August 3, 2004) GE Energy was awarded a contract by Cinergy Corp. of Cincinnati, Ohio for a gas turbine controls upgrade package. The upgrade centralized control and improved the performance of three LM6000PA uprate gas turbines at Cinergy's Henry County Generating Station in New Castle, Ind. GE worked closely with Cinergy to develop a custom software controls upgrade that included the latest fuel core software, a 10-minute fast-start to full load capability, automatic generator synchronization, automatic generator loading, remote generator load control, and trouble-shooting enhancements for the LM6000PA uprated units. The improved performance provided by these upgrades was guaranteed contractually. The upgrade also provided a PC-based central Human Machine Interface (HMI) to monitor and control all three turbines from a single Wonderware 7.1 interface. The Henry County Generating Station previously utilized a Netcon Local/Linknet control system, running software older than what is now available for similar units. Previously, each LM6000 was controlled by its own HMI. Following the upgrade, one central PC is now controlling all three turbines. Cinergy's Henry County 135-megawatt gas-fired electric peaking generation station first went online in 2001. Cinergy Corp. has a balanced, integrated portfolio consisting of two core businesses: regulated operations and commercial business unit. Cinergy's regulated delivery operations in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky serve 1.5 million electric customers and about 500,000 gas customers.
