GE Energy Showcasing Full Range of Solutions for Coal-Fired Power Plants

OVERLAND PARK, KAN (July 28, 2004) — GE Energy, a leading supplier of technology and services for the global power industry, is showcasing its comprehensive range of solutions for coal-fired power plants at Coal-Gen 2004.

Among the products being featured at the GE booth is the LMS100, an intercooled, 100-megawatt gas turbine introduced last year. Applying this machine as a boiler feedwater heat source in a coal-fired power plant can increase gas-to-electric conversion efficiency to levels as high as 55 percent for retrofitted coal plants and 61 percent for new, supercritical coal plants.

GE is a long-time supplier of steam turbine-generators for coal-fired power plants. At Coal-Gen, the company is displaying a full range of steam turbine and generator repair technologies designed to help plant owners and operators increase the performance and the productivity of their equipment.

Also featured in the GE booth is integrated gasification combined-cycle (IGCC) technology, which allows the use of coal as fuel for producing power with fewer emissions compared to conventional coal-fired power plants. GE is a world leader in supplying gas turbines for IGCC plants, and recently expanded its IGCC portfolio by acquiring ChevronTexaco's gasification technology.

Visitors to the GE booth can also view a comprehensive array of service tools and systems designed to maximize coal plant efficiency and output, reduce emissions and identify opportunities to improve plant performance. Among those offerings are:

•  EfficiencyMap™, GenGauge® and CoaLogic® systems for optimizing plant performance, combustion and dispatch

•  System 1® optimization and diagnostic software featuring new application packages

•  Emissions measurement solutions including the NetDAHS™ Data Acquisition system, and comprehensive services and systems for emissions monitoring

Along with GE Energy's products and services, the GE booth will include water and process technologies from GE Infrastructure that provide complete solutions for a utility's water and fuel treatment needs.
