Bently Nevada to Deliver Enterprise-Wide Condition Monitoring Solution for Major Spanish Energy Producer ENDESA

MINDEN, NV (February 2, 2004) — Bently Nevada today announced that it has received a contract to supply and install comprehensive machinery protection and condition monitoring systems for ENDESA GENERACIÓN, S.A. and ENDESA CICLOS COMBINADOS, S.L. of Madrid, Spain. The contract, exceeding 1.2 million USD, represents the largest order ever received by Bently Nevada’s office in Spain and calls for the company to provide its asset optimization and condition monitoring solutions at six Endesa locations: three conventional thermal plants (Andorra, Los Barrios and Compostilla) and three combined-cycle plants (Besós, San Roque and Tarragona). Installation will be completed later this year.

ENDESA will be the first company in Spain to begin using the Decision SupportSM capabilities within Bently Nevada's System 1™ asset optimization and condition monitoring software. This software technology operates in real time on the data supplied to System 1 by field devices measuring process conditions and monitoring systems measuring machinery mechanical health parameters. Using embedded knowledge from ENDESA and Bently Nevada, the software then automatically reviews and analyzes the collected data. When abnormal conditions or events are detected, ENDESA is notified with advisories that embed their own operating procedures, allowing their personnel to respond in a predetermined manner to mechanical problems or events, often ahead of any detrimental impact to the machine or process. The software can be easily configured and personalized to reflect the specific machines and operating/maintenance practices employed by ENDESA, providing machine-, plant-, customer-, and even employee-specific messaging, alarming, and procedural instructions.

The contract includes the installation of System 1 software at all six ENDESA plants, with Decision Support capabilities implemented at four of the six plants - the remaining two plants plan to add Decision Support at a later date in 2004. The three combined-cycle plants will also augment their online monitoring systems with Bently Nevada's Snapshot™ for Windows® CE portable data collection and vibration analysis instruments.

“The ENDESA projects represent Bently Nevada’s commitment to deploy our solutions not just to a single plant, but enterprise-wide to the entire utility,” said Richard Chapman, president, Bently Nevada. “ENDESA has embraced our Decision Support tool as a way to engage in smarter, more confident decision making for operations and maintenance. Decision Support is the ‘new wave of the future’ for condition monitoring.”

Additional information on System 1 software, the Snapshot family of portable data collection instruments, and the wide range of installation and asset management services provided by Bently Nevada is available on the company’s website at www.bently.com.
