GE Jenbacher Supplying Equipment for Alternative Energy Projects in Asia LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (December 9, 2003) GE Jenbacher, a division of GE Power Systems specializing in the manufacture of gas engines and the utilization of alternative energy sources such as diverse biogases and other special gases, has received several recent orders for its technology in Thailand and Malaysia. Thailand -- Khorat waste-to-energy project : This system generates electricity from biogas obtained from the wastewater of a starch factory. GE Jenbacher is supplying three generator sets that will add 3,144 kilowatts of capacity for this plant, and a second expansion involving two additional units is being planned. -- Rayong waste-to-fertilizer-and-energy project : GE Jenbacher is supplying a cogeneration plant based on one type JMS 312 engine for a state-subsidized biomass fermentation project. In addition to generating electricity, the waste heat also is used for the fermentation process. The engine exhaust also can be utilized for drying the biomass residue, which can be used as fertilizer. The project, based in the city of Rayong, will have an electrical output of 625 kilowatts and a thermal output of 397 kilowatts. Malaysia -- Jana Landfill : GE Jenbacher is supplying two generator sets built in containers for the first landfill gas system in Malaysia, which is being constructed for state energy supplier TNB-ES Sdn. Bhd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad. The landfill gas will be used to generate 2,096 kilowatts of electricity, and a plant expansion up to five megawatts is planned. The growing number of landfill gas and biogas projects in Malaysia is the result of a government initiative to supply five percent of the countrys energy demands from renewable energy sources within the next few years. About GE Jenbacher GE Jenbacher is one of the worlds leading manufacturers of gas-fueled reciprocating engines, packaged generator sets and cogeneration units for power generation. The engines range in power from 0.3 to 3 megawatts and run on either natural gas or a variety of other gases (biogas, landfill, coal mine, sewage and combustible industrial waste gases.) Patented combustion systems, engine controls and monitoring enable the companys products to meet the strictest international emission standards while offering high levels of efficiency, durability and reliability. GE Jenbacher has its headquarters and production facilities in Jenbach, Austria where 1,000 of its more than 1,300 employees are located.
