GE Power Systems Launches NetDAHS Unleashing the Power to Change the Emission Monitoring Industry ATLANTA, GEORGIA (November 17, 2003) GE Power Systems latest Data Acquisition and Handling System, NetDAHS, promises to alter the landscape of the air monitoring industry by enabling authorized access to emission monitoring data at any time from any PC. By shifting from a PC-based application to a Web-based architecture, the new system allows accurate data to be shared and monitored by any authorized personnel. Increasing access to real-time emission information-updated every 10 seconds-generates an entirely new set of business opportunities and establishes a new standard for the industry. Data Acquisition and Handling Systems (DAHSs) are required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other countries environmental organizations to monitor, track and report emission levels for various pollutants such as nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and others. Emissions data is gathered through a series of analyzers and monitors located on the stack via a Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS). The DAHS is a software application that manages the gathered emissions data and functions as a component of the CEMS. The older PC-based technologies really minimize a DAHSs effectiveness, says Steve Rowe, general manager of GE Power Systems environmental services group. Our NetDAHS offering is designed to help improve the role emissions monitoring plays in the profitability equation by simplifying todays monitoring and reporting tasks. It also provides the business with tools it will need to seize future opportunities, such as emissions trading, where greater access to emissions generation data will be required. This new software design is the result of decades of regulatory compliance experience combined with forward-looking product innovation. To provide a secure environment, NetDAHS relies on the Windows® 2000 operating system, which is the first to receive an EAL4 rating, the highest available. The EAL4 rating is in accordance with ISO standard 15048 and consistent with the commercial-level information security requirements for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). In addition to its security measures, the new design will decrease maintenance activities by approximately 80% and contains multiple navigational features that simplify the complex emissions monitoring and reporting tasks. With current DAHS products, users must reinstall software for every upgrade and regulatory change. With NetDAHS, upgrades will be seamless via an automated update upon log-in. The NetDAHS will also provide a template for the GE upgraded programmable logic controller, iNetPLC, due out later this year. GE is currently accepting orders for NetDAHS.
