Direct Hire Program

Experienced Engineers

The Direct Hire Program is an accelerated Field Engineering program for engineers with three or more years of experience and a background in utility, cogeneration, maritime, navy nuclear, gas turbine or other rotating equipment.

A Direct Hire Program candidate has the following qualifications:

  • Three or more years of work experience in maintenance, repair and troubleshooting in one of the following areas: power plants, heavy rotating equipment, maritime power plants/propulsion or as an aircraft technician.
  • Working knowledge of electrical circuits, precision measurements, prints and print reading, non-destructive examination, basic welding, rigging and precision alignment.
  • Computer knowledge and a mastery of basic software packages.

As a direct hire, candidates attend a six to eight week GE-specific business orientation at Power Systems University in Schenectady, NY, prior to a field assignment. Advanced training opportunities are also available to those who express an interest in the service and installation of specialized turbine and turbine control equipment.

The Energy Services Technical Training Department of Power Systems University offers a wide variety of advanced courses in the following areas:

  • Steam turbine
  • Steam turbine controls
  • Gas turbine
  • Gas turbine controls
  • Generator
  • Generator excitation
  • Additional advanced courses

Management referrals, business needs and logistical considerations are all taken into account during course enrollment periods.
