Positions & Programs

Rise to the Challenge

GE provides challenging intern and co-op assignments for students who are looking for a critical jump-start on their careers. Students have a great opportunity for gaining valuable hands-on experience and making major contributions to the company.

Assignments help you and GE to determine whether your skills, interests and values match GE's expectations and culture. Depending on your choice and your major, your co-op or internship may be part of the pipeline for one of our Technical Entry Programs: the Edison Engineering Development Program (EEDP) or the Operations Management Leadership Program (OMLP).

Design & Development

Design positions offer a range of opportunities. You will find assignments in component design and testing, aerodynamic and thermodynamic design and performance, stress analysis, vibration analysis and turbine tests. Most projects require use of a PC or workstation to utilize 3D modeling, finite element analysis or probabilistic modeling software. Your first assignment is typically chosen for you; all subsequent assignments can be chosen to match your interests and goals.

Manufacturing & Sourcing

Manufacturing has opportunities for co-ops to work in teams to improve manufacturing and repair processes for turbine components, decrease inventory and assist in planning for sourced parts based on turbine requirements. Positions can involve cycle time reduction, product flow, workstation design and tooling, materials handling and environmental, health and safety regulations compliance. Co-ops may participate in action workouts and time studies to improve production. Repair and planning procedures are frequently taught as well.

Sourcing gives you an opportunity to assist in the development and growth of domestic and international suppliers. You will work with a team leader in developing and maintaining data management tools for your sourcing team. You can act as a buyer to place purchase orders and renegotiate contracts.
